Information on specific student opportunities to start under Erasmus + is provided to KPES students every year at information meetings held at the end of the winter semester. The appointment is announced at a meeting of the Department and through a web notice.

The selection procedure for the exchange takes place during the first week of the summer term. The exact date, time and room are announced in advance via e-bulletin board.

Candidates enrol in a selection procedure through the university e-system. The conditions for the selection process and all institutions with which DPES has concluded an Erasmus + contract may be found there too.

Outgoing students are kindly requested to read the Erasmus + (and possibly other study opportunities abroad) information on the RUP Foreign Office (http://www.iro.upol.cz/)

Information on the number of credits DPES students are supposed to gain during the Erasmus stay abroad:

According to the learning agreement students are required to score at least 20 ECST credits per semester of study. The essential information for DPES students, however, remains that the department requires them to obtain at least 30 ECST credits per semester. This is a long-term policy of the department. Many years of experience with the sophistication of home and partner university studies entitle DPES management to apply for this number of credits to students. Policies and demands of individual faculties, respectively, departments remain individual and differ in their student requirements.

Before going abroad, the student is required to sign the so-called Learning Agreement (LA). He will be informed, among other things, at the Erasmus + Department Information Meeting; detailed information will be received from the Foreign Office of the RUP several weeks after the successful nomination by the Department for a foreign study stay. The essence of LA is the development of a preliminary study plan, which contains courses potentially acceptable by the home department. When LA is submitted, as well as later changes in this curriculum, the signature of the Erasmus+ Dept. Coordinator is also required.

DPES asks its students to enroll in courses with an emphasis on obtaining 30 ECTS credits per semester. Also, subsequent LA adjustments that may occur due to changes in timetable or offered courses at a partner university should reflect this department requirement.

Important clarifications:

  • If the student plans to study abroad during the winter semester, he / she must have fulfilled all the study obligations by 30 June of the year.
  • In respect with the control of study duties carried out in cooperation with the study department of the Faculty of Arts, PU, it is not possible to nominate freshers of postgraduate course (MA) for the first semester.

Under the Erasmus+ programme, starting with the 2014/15 academic year, one of the basic qualifying conditions of the program is being modified. Students can participate in both study and internships repeatedly. The condition is that the student at each level of his / her study (study cycle) must not spend on Erasmus for more than 12 months, with study and internships being counted in these 12 months.

Study in USA

Valdosta State University – Valdosta, Georgia, USA (http://www.valdosta.edu/) is a PU partner university

Cooperation with this university is based mainly on exchange study periods (1 semester, year-long study) of students. DPES is also an annual host institution of the Maymester Study Abroad program organising a certain sojourn of Valdosta State University students.

Merrill's program:

DPES students are successful almost every year in earning Merrill Scholarships which allows them to enroll for an annual study program at a college in the USA. The administration of the programme is entrusted to the PU Office of Foreign Relations. The Selection Committee for the Merrill Program is appointed by the PU Rector. Please see the details of the criteria and the selection procedure:

The National Model United Nations (NMUN)

In 2008, DPES included the National Model United Nations (NMUN) course in its tuition. It is a selective minor one-semester course, the essence of which is to familiarize students with the functioning of the United Nations and current issues. Since 2009, DPES students join annually the delegation with the US colleagues from Valdosta State University (VSU) at the prestigious international conference, NMUN, in New York (http://www.nmun.org/). It is the world's largest simulation of UN meetings, including individual committees and affiliated organizations for college students. The joint delegations of VSU and DPES regularly receive the prestigious "Distinguished Delegation" award.

The participants of each year always summarise the significance of the conference in the PU Journal. In its archives, you can browse the 2009 delegation articles (National Model of the United Nations: How to learn and promote your proposals and find a consensus: www.zurnal.upol.cz/zprava/clanek/narodni-model-osn-jak- (Students Represented the University in New York: www.zurnal.upol.cz/zprava/clanek/studenti-reprezentovali-univerzitu-v -new-york /), 2011 (International Conference National Model of the UN: Politics students brought awards from New York: www.zurnal.upol.cz/zprava/clanek/mezinarodni-konference-narodni-model-osn- Students-politology-and-privezli-z-new-york-award) and 2012 (Students of the PU awarded again - This time on Broadway: www.zurnal.upol.cz/zprava/clanek/studenti-up- Again-awarded-delegation-this time-on-broadway /).

In January 2012, a separate delegation of DPES students also participated in the European Regional Conference in Lille, France (What links Colombia, Lille and Palacky University? www.zurnal.upol.cz/zprava/clanek/co-spojuje-kolumbii-lille -a-university-palacke /).

One of the largest international events held in recent years under the auspices of the Rector of Palacky University and the NCCA, organizing the annual conference in New York, was the European NMUN conference in November 2010 in Olomouc. The role of the UN Secretary-General was held by DPES Hynek Melichar, lecturer in international relations and international security courses. A delegation of DPES students was represented by Luxembourg this time. (Palacky University hosted a simulated UN meeting: www.zurnal.upol.cz/video/clanek/univerzita-palackeho-hostila-simulovane-zasedani-osn/). The conference and accompanying program for three hundred students from eleven countries organized a team of 40 students from our Department.
